Prairie Settlement

A common thread of Kelly’s and Loretta’s family tree is that early in the 19th Century, their families with colonial roots had settled on farms in the midwestern states of Iowa, Illinois and Ohio.  Many having moved west from New England, others moving west from Virginia.

Dunn Family

The Dunn family moved from New York to Ohio before 1850 and then on to the Newton Iowa area in 1858.  Other family surnames in this branch include the Hoovers, the Fugards.

Swaney Family

The Swaney family moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio before and then on to Marango, Iowa before 1860.  Other family surnames in this branch include the Richardsons, Blairs and Clarksons

Richmond Family

The Richmond family moved from Van Buren, New York to Kendall, Illinois by LaSalle before 1871.  Other families are recognized as early settlers of LaSalle County, Illinois.  Their family surnames include Shavers,Robinson and Staddens

Miller Family

The Millers moved from Ohio to Indiana before 1850.  Other family surnames include Medskes and Lucas.
