LeVoy Frederick Richmond  (b.   07 Jul 1897, d.  04 Dec 1960)

LeVoy was born on July 7, 1897 in  Rutland Township near Marseilles,  LaSalle Co, Illinois.  He was the son of Harry Edwin Richmond and Margaret “Maude” (Shaver) Richmond. 

Growing up in Marsailles, attended school at ____.  His family moved to Taylorville before 1910 and he attended Taylorville High School and graduated. On    he registered for the Draft in the War.  However due to a flu outbreak in Texas, he enlistment was delayed and he did not serve in the army.   During high school he worked for a local grocer and also delivered telegrams.

He married Floy Zeigler on May 11, 1918  in Taylorville, Christian Co. , Illinois.   Floy was the daughter of Louis Zeigler and Carrie (Lockwood) Zeigler.   They were married by  at  .  For their honeymoon, they travelled to Detroit where they picked up a new car and drove it back to the dealership that LeVoy worked.  Later he would establish his own auto dealership in Taylorville called Richmond Motors.

in the 1920’s he purchased land east of the City of Taylorville and developed it as the Country Club addition to the City.  He was a founding member of the Taylorville Country Club.  LeVoy and Floy built their home at 106 Richmond Avenue which included a garage, a stable and pasture in the back.  

They had two children, Elaine & Arlene.  With their two daughters, they raised ponies and showed the ponies at county, state, national and international horse shows.  He was assisted by a trainer named .

Following World War II, LeVoy managed the War Surplus operation in Iliopoulos, Illinois.   As that operation wound down, he went on to manage the War Surplus operation in Des Moines.  He and Floy resided in an apartment in Des Moines from  194? – 194?  .  Later he and Floy returned to their  home at 106 Richmond Avenue in the Country Club addition of Taylorville and he operated his dealership which expanded to include farm machinery and he worked on the development of new Lake Taylorville.  He was an active member of the Lions Club in Taylorville

He passed away on December 4, 1960    in Taylorville at the age of 63.  He died from a heart attack  and he was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Illinois. His obituary was published on   in the Breeze Courier Newspaper of Taylorville.
